Vivaana Culture Hotel

Vivaana is a meticulously restored 19th century Shekhawati Haveli, featuring luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. Handmade oversized beds, goose down pillows and intricate detailing make our property one of the most elegant and comfortable culture hotels in Rajasthan.
Vivaana - a 150 year old Haveli with a perfectly preserved treasure of untouched frescoes, once inhabited by prosperous Marwari traders.
In 2003, I was introduced to the Shekhavati Region by one of the handicraft traders. I was pleasantly surprised to see such an artistic marvel so close to Delhi. The Shekhavati Region also called ‘The Open Art Gallery’ attracted me as a calling from my past life. The region inspired me and my son Shiven to establish ourselves in Shekhavati for which purpose we started hunting for suitable Havelis.
The best part of the Havelis are the picturesque frescoes which bring the place alive. The frescoes all around the property depict mythological and historical themes. They include images of Gods, Goddesses, animals, the life of Lord Krishna and also some erotic frescoes. The techniques employed for these frescoes were elaborate, and comparable to the Italian frescoes of the 14th century. The colors were mixed in lime water or lime plaster and were then made to sink into the plaster physically through processes of beating, burnishing, and polishing. All the pigments used were prepared with natural and primarily household ingredients like kohl, lime, indigo, red stone powder, and saffron. These frescoes are complemented with mirror work and intricately carved wood work.
Renovations were a huge challenge. The aesthetics and heritage had to be kept in mind and modern amenities had to be added. To add to the difficulty was the fact that the Haveli lacked even a single space for bathrooms as it was not considered a good practice to have inhouse toilets. Spaces were chalked out with imagination and innovation to provide all amenities without compromising the original flavor.
