War Memorial Delhi

SITE
The proposed site is a part of the same Lutyens style design of triangles and hexagons from the Indo-Saracenic era. The site is the three lawns among the six C-hexagons encircling India Gate and the Chattri. The total area of the three lawns combined is 38 sq. m.
A National War Memorial is proposed as a part of the lawns encircling India gate to pay homage to our Nations martyrs of the Indian armed forces and to commemorate the heroic lives lost while protecting our country during war.
The design takes inspiration from the geometry of the site and has been conceived as a Lotus flower with each bay representing a petal of the flower.
Each triangular space has been developed as stepped terraces.
The uppermost level is a water body with fountains visible as one walks towards the central circular path, to create a feeling of peace and tranquillity.
The second level is a shrub bed planted with saffron colored flowers.
The third terrace is planted with white flowering shrubs and variegated plants.
The fourth level is planted with green foliage shrubs.
As one walks through the lawns surrounding these terraces, one can experience the magnificence of the Tricolor.
Rock formations shall be randomly placed amongst the greenery.
Along the radial roads, stone walls rise up at the edge of the terraced planters. These walls shall depict scenes of valour from the wars fought by our brave soldiers. A ramp adjacent to the walls enables the visitor to view these closely and also takes one from the ground level to the plaza level.
