Chandni chowk

Aim: Create pedestrian friendly 'heritage roads' by repurposing current infrastructure by moving items such as water supply, electricity, drainage, communication lines. The safety of users, minimising any interference between the services and also future proof the operation and maintenance of services is a major objective.
The roads taken under this project:
1) Netaji Subhash Marg to Delhi Gate to Kashmiri Gate.
2) Roads adjoining to Chandni Chowk Road
3) Nayi Sarak
4) Bali Maran Road
5) Gali Qasim Jaan Road
6) Farash Khana
7) Lal Kuan Main Road

Strategies:
1) Traffic and transportation – curtail vehicular traffic for four and two wheelers. Providing designated surface, underground and multi-level parking spaces as per by laws and providing alternate means of transport from these locations such as e-rickshaws, e-carts, bicycles etc.
2) Heritage – Promote tourism by enhancing the streetscape experience along the heritage trails.
3) Strengthening the economic base – decongesting the commercial streets, improving services and providing better connectivity.
4) Conservation of the urban aesthetics of main streets - facade controls and physical development of street control on encroachment and use of prevalent architectural elements in developing the façades and the character of the streets.
5) Strengthening the infrastructure – Appropriate allocation of public utilities, the design to be in sync with the elements that define the street character. Redesign of services which will be relocated in underground trenches.
6) Solid Waste management – Allocate appropriate locations for garbage disposal. Organised nightly removal of the garbage and cleaning of streets.
7) Redeveloping the existing urban spaces – Edge design of parks and medians. Appropriate selection of plant material for road side and median planting.
8) Improving the residential areas - conserving heritage houses, strict follow up of building regulations, decongestion and treatment of open spaces.
9) Incorporating and developing Tourism infrastructure - heritage walks, food trails, information centre, adequate signage's, well planned and maintained public utilities.
10) Removal of polluting elements – relocation of hazardous industry.
